Pain Management

Pain Management

A variety of medical conditions can result in a pet that is in PAIN. Surgical incisions, dental disease, traumatic events, genetic defects, and osteoarthritis are among the many indications for pain control. Dogs and cats exhibit pain in a variety of ways:

1.   Excessive licking

2.   Decrease in self-grooming (cat)

3.   “Slowing Down”

4.    Inability to jump up or down

5.    Limping

6.    Pacing or inability to get comfortable

7.    Slipping or reluctance to walk on hard surfaces

8.   Hiding or crouched position (cat)

9.    Reluctance to be touched or groomed

10.  Aggression

11.  Vocalizing

Pain Management Addressing pain or discomfort in these patients can lead to a much improved quality of life, better healing, and an over-all happy pet. At Animal Medical Center we address pain in a multi-modal or different therapy approach. By doing this, pain control is better achieved. Therapies that may be chosen based on the symptoms of your pet include: Therapeutic laser, joint supplements including Dasuquin and a prescription joint diet, physical therapy, Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, other medications for joint, muscle and nerve pain, education on environmental changes and care at home.
